Commissioning

WA Primary Health Alliance operates the state’s three Primary Health Networks (PHNs) and is responsible for planning, guiding and directing investment towards important primary care services on behalf of the Australian Government.

We operate across the State and partner with communities, service providers, GPs and allied health professionals, to improve access to healthcare closer to home for those at risk of poor health outcomes.

We listen to local communities to understand who they are, their unique health needs, and how their world is changing. Investment in these community-based services is aligned to needs and evidence of what works. Services are developed and shaped accordingly, and accountability for service delivery is underpinned by monitoring and evaluation.

Approximately 50 per cent of program expenditure is on mental health services. A further 13 per cent is allocated to drug and alcohol treatment and 20 per cent  to flexible funding, allowing us to respond to national priorities and local needs.

Our state-wide structure and strong partnerships give us an opportunity to shape a health system that is fit for the future. Australian Government funding through WA Primary Health Alliance for primary care services in Western Australia has increased substantially since our establishment.
